International Women's Day: Glitter Lips on female entrepreneur perceptions

Long-time Pioneers Paula and Rachel own a cosmetic brand Beauty Boulevard which specialises in glittery lipstick aka Glitter Lips. These talented ladies have been featured on our site, followed us to the VIP Louder Lounge at V-Festival and adorned celebs and media with their sparkly wares and appeared at last years Power Up. To celebrate #IWD2016 we've asked them to share their thoughts on being women and successful small business owners.

"It's 2016 and even though we've been self-employed for 28 years collectively, some people still find it hard to believe that we, two women, have successfully opened and are running our own flourishing business. We are Paula and Rachel from Beauty Boulevard and we have created Glitter Lips, which is a show-stopping lippy that is drink, kiss and party proof! One application will last up to 8 hours!

We started Beauty Boulevard several years ago now, but even some of our male friends can't help themselves but say "No offence... But how did you manage to pull this business malarky off? But they have no idea how much extra drive that statement can give us!

In a situation like ours, it helps when you have such strong entrepreneurial women to look up to. For example, Jacqueline Gold – we are massive fans of hers. At the age of 19 she saw many ways she could improve Ann Summers, from the way the business was run with a majority of male head office employees to the way it was perceived by the retail market. Jacqueline introduced the idea of all female stores creating a sense of insider-ness and comfortable environment for her customers. She also created the infamous 'Ann Summers Parties' which allowed friends to get together, have fun and chat about that 'taboo' subject.

Jacqueline has had no formal business training and puts all her success down to hard work, being customer focused and knowing her market. She is also the creator of the Twitter campaign #WOW (Women on Wednesday) which helps support and promote women entrepreneurs who are starting out on their own. Jacqueline is an ambassador for women, a massive inspiration and is living proof that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it."
