From the Virgin Media Pioneers challenges, branding and pitching masterclasses I learnt that in order for cocolem to grow and become more successful, as the Founder, I had to have the confidence in myself to speak clearly and openly about the ‘whats’, ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ I started my business. Branding is key as well as the ability to visualise how you want the design of your business to look. I also learnt that there is more to running a business than simply having a great idea as the reality of being a successful entrepreneur involves a lot of hard work, mental strength and a great support system to grow and maintain a business.
Therefore, by the end of ‘Growvember’ 2016, I pledge to have done the following things:
- Find a business mentor to guide me on bookkeeping, costs, balance sheets and cash flow and other important behind the scenes aspects to running a small business.
- As digital marketing continues to grow and as more consumers go online to search and purchase products and services. My second pledge is to engage more with potential consumers across cocolem’s social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- As a form of market research, my final pledge would be to make more samples to give out to consumers at tailored events and workshops.

Great pledges Roshanne! I've made sure to give you an extra like on Facebook
I'm really happy that you learnt a lot from our masterclasses, looking forward to seeing where Cocolem will get to next! Keep us up to date with your business and make sure to ask on the community for advice if you're still looking for a mentor.

After attending the challenges, branding and pitching Masterclasses during GEW2016, my three pledges before the end of the month were to find a business mentor, increase cocolem’s social media engagement and formulate samples to give out in order to raise brand awareness.
Engage more with cocolem’s social media + make more samples
I loved David McQueen’s advice regarding having the confidence to talk about your brand and why it is important to you. As a result of this masterclass I networked with a holistic and spiritual jewellery brand that makes crystal and symbolic pieces. The brand as well as the Founders of have over 35k followers online so this competition will be great brand exposure for cocolem!
During the end of October leading into November, cocolem was asked to offer samples for an all-female book club. We were able to provide 40 samples and the feedback we received from the ladies was incredibly loving and honest. As such we have incorporated their feedback, as well as the feedback from cocolem's community and we are in the process of having a formulation chemist produce further samples to match. The next steps we are looking to take on are having the lip balms tested to EU regulations, so look out for cocolem we should be on your shelves in the near future!
Find a business mentor
Unfortunately, this was the one pledge I was not able to achieve. However, I am of the view that the information I have learnt from the virgin media pioneer community and from the masterclasses two weeks ago have acted as virtual business mentors. I cannot thank virgin media pioneers enough for the opportunity to network with a like-minded community, learn from incredibly successful entrepreneurs and instil the confidence in me to make the best business-minded steps for cocolem.
Below are a few examples of the feedback Cocolem lip balms have received:
With 2016 nearly over and 2017 fast approaching I am ready to #VOOM!
