Hi everyone, here's my pledge for the Virgin Media Pioneers #VOOM competition!
As some of you know, my name is Sereena Abbassi and I am the Founder of All Here.
Now I imagine, you probably initially chose a career based on having someone in your immediate surroundings doing it? I also imagine that you’ve consciously or unconsciously chosen to surround yourself with people who you believe reflect who you are? Such as values, interests, and maybe even occupation?
I use to be a recruiter for the creative industry – branding & advertising. And I can tell you that these biases also extend to the hiring process – hiring is personal. I’ve had ex-clients categorically state that they have an overwhelming preference in seeing candidates who have gone to the same institutions as them.
All Here is a mentoring scheme, and a digital platform which connects 13-19 year olds and creative industry professionals (at this moment in time specifically Creative Directors & Strategists) where we create access to the ‘other’ and help facilitate a space for reciprocal learning. The mentoring scheme is supported by an e-training & coaching programme for the creative industry, which supports companies to think about how they can move away from quota driven diversity.
All Here came about because we feel that there is a real urgency for us to start engaging with each other, and for us to then start looking at sustainable solutions in how we bridge the gaps that sit between ‘us’ and ‘them’.
At All Here we believe, that only when we start collectively engaging in a discourse – can the benefits in our differences become highlighted.
And we believe that the branding and advertising industry have the power to set a new precedence for this.
All Here sets to transform the way we engage, which will create sincerer work because it’s been created by the people it’s created for – all of us.
All Here, all together, all connecting, and inspiring a more empathic world.
My 3 pledges for the end of Nov are:
- To get my site up - I did this on GEW day 1 after Samantha Clark's masterclass at 11.30pm – whoop!
- Engage with Investors - I very randomly found myself in relatively close proximity to Touker Suleyman at an outdoor market 2x weekends ago – as you do! I saw this as a sign that All Here is bigger than me, it's a change/movement that needs to happen. I told him about All Here (it was a ramble) though within that, perhaps it was my passion & excitement (or my cojones) he took to something, so he called his Business Manager over who handed me a card and said: "we'll get you in".
- Engage with schools - This is happening today (finding appropriate person to speak to via LinkedIn) and tomorrow I'll make a call just before day 2x of my business course, as I now feel less of a rambling smiley mess – I've got this!
The £2000 Virgin Media Pioneer prize will be a great support, as we're still yet to secure any seed investment for our launch in January!

Thanks for the video message Sereena! We loved meeting you at the masterclasses and bringing such positive energy along.
Amazing news about Touker Suleyman - huge well done on giving him a quick pitch and catching his interest!
What would you say has been the biggest challenge about completing your pitches this month?

I would definitely say keeping it succinct (tangents and I are very fond - I think my dyslexia is partially accountable!) I would say without a shadow of a doubt that that has been the largest challenge faced re pitching.
Also, I'm not too sure if my website is visible enough within my pitch (it's near the end) here's my website for you to take a look:

What a fantastic entree, and what a pleasure to have had you along to our sessions this week.
I particularly like what you've said about All Here being something bigger than yourself. I think in business, especially with your own business, having that as a driving motivation will get you through whatever challenge comes your way!
Look forward to following your progress, and website looks great!
