Pitch to Rich comes to Manchester #VOOM

“Great teams create great businesses,” reveals Richard Reed, founder of Innocent. “Find a group of people with the same set of values and complementary skills, and you’re in a position to make your product or business a success.”

Richard shared these words of advice last night at Manchester venue Gorilla, the #VOOM: Pitch to Rich 2015 tour got off with a bang. 150 local entrepreneurs attended the evening, which was held in association with Eventbrite.

Pitch to Rich is a nationwide competition - and Virgin Media Business want to highlight the astonishing businesses all over the UK. Launched by Sir Richard Branson, the nationwide competition invites SMEs of all sizes and aspiring entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to the Virgin Group Founder for the chance to win a share of an unprecedented £1million business accelerator prize fund. Last night’s event marked the first stop on the tour of six major cities across the UK, seeking to find some of Manchester’s best business minds. The evening featured success stories from Reed and the founder of Eventbrite, Renaud Visage, and advice on how entrepreneurs can make their businesses #VOOM.

Three entrepreneurs also had the opportunity to get feedback on their pitching skills from a panel of experts including Chris Barry, from The Business Desk and Katie Gallagher, Managing Director at Manchester Digital. The ideas pitched included:

Wicker Wings – a brother and sister team which makes fashion bags created from wicker, with a bag-for-bag scheme that donates a bag filled with books and stationary to a child in China.

Abdirahman Jama from Pinnacle - a local mobile advertising agency that bridges the gap between local businesses and their consumers through mobile devices.

Mark Harrison, inventor of Triple Tread - an innovative, three wheeled bicycle which aids MS sufferers to engage in exercise.

Peter Kelly, Managing Director, Virgin Media Business, said: “Starting a business is hard work and requires determination, motivation and enthusiasm. Many will be the blue chips of tomorrow, so more needs to be done to nurture these companies today. “That’s why we’re so invested in supporting these businesses through Pitch to Rich. It’s a chance to meet the bright minds behind some of the most innovative UK businesses, and help champion their vision.”
